# Basic TSprint configuration

Discover how to configure TSPrint on your remote desktop to avoid the issues that printers can cause in your Remote Desktop infrastructure.

 

### **How do you configure TSPrint so you can use it on your Remote Desktop?**

#### **Prerequisites or pre-configuration​**

To successfully complete this tutorial and configure TSPrint on Remote Desktop, certain requirements must be met:

* On the one hand, \*\*be registered \*\*on the Plenit Platform with an organization and **be registered** in it after doing [Log in](https://admin.jotelulu.com/){target="\_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"}.
* On the other hand, having [set up a Remote Desktop subscription](https://jotelulu.com/soporte/tutoriales/alta-entorno-escritorio-remoto){target="\_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"}.

 

#### **Step 1. Review the printers you want to map**

**The first thing to be clear about is which printers you want to map, which in principle will be the ones available on our local desktop, the one we want to use to authenticate on the Remote Desktop.**

To do this, you can go to **Control Panel** and then\*\* select Hardware and Sound > View devices and printers \*\*(1).

Once inside, we review the **printers we want to have mapped** on the Remote Desktop thanks to TSPrint (2).

#### **Step 2. Installation of the TSPrint software**

Next, you must **access the remote desktop** and once authenticated there, open a **web browser** such as Google Chrome for example, and enter the following URL to access the TSPrint downloads:

**NOTE:** *Another option is to type "TSPrint" in the search engine and reach the same address by browsing the web.*

Of the two versions shown, you should **select the server version**.

Once downloaded, you can proceed with the installation.

The installation process, as we will see, is quite simple.

The first thing to do is start the installation, with a **user with administrator permissions**.

Next, **you must select the installation language** (4) and once selected, click Accept, which will begin the installation itself.

In the next window, a \*\*welcome \*\*is shown, and you simply need to **click "Next"**.

The next step is **accept the end-user license agreement** (5), which as always we invite you to read before accepting.

In the next step there is not much choice either, as you are warned that the **Terminal Server server package**. And then, you must click Next.

In the next window you have to **select the TSPrint installation path** (6).

And finally, a **short summary** of the options selected is shown, and you must **click on "Install"** (7)

At this point, all that remains is to wait while the installation progresses, which will be reflected in **the progress bar**. The process will be more or less quick, depending on the server, but in general it will be quite fast, taking only a few minutes.

When the installation finishes, a short summary is shown stating that it has completed successfully and you must **click on "Finish"** so that the installer closes and we can start using the application.

#### **Step 3. TSPrint configuration**

At this point, we already have the application installed, but we must configure it so that it gives us the best results and, above all, does not cause problems.

For this, **we look for TSPrint**, selecting the **server option** in the start menu.

We should begin by selecting the mode in which **the printers will be mapped for each user**. The ideal option is **"Select default printer for all users"** (8) we select "Select printer". On the other hand, we can also go selecting the **drivers used by TSPrinter** (9).

The next point is quite important, as it will avoid many of the problems that arise in this type of environment.

You should go to the "Redirection" tab and **check the box "Use a Single ID per User for the Name printer"** (10), this will prevent random IDs from being generated in each session that could compromise the correct use of the printer.

Likewise, when checking this box, a pop-up window will appear indicating the option we have selected, "The printer name with a unique id, instead of a session id, may lead to conflicts if users are logged in multiple sessions", to which you should **click OK** (11)

Finally, it should be noted that the free TSPrint license lasts for 25 days, so you should go to the start menu and **search for "TSPrint Registration"**.

In this small console that opens, you can see that several tasks related to licenses can be performed:

* A license file can be loaded.
* A license can be purchased from here by clicking a button.
* The number of connected users can be viewed.

\*\*NOTE: \*\*Next, it is recommended that you leave the Remote Desktop session and log back in. This will refresh the printers.

With this, we can now check that the printers mapped in the Remote Desktop correspond to our local printers and we can start using them.

\*\*NOTE: \*\*If you do not see the printers, it may be due to a session refresh issue; leave the Remote Desktop session and log back in.

 

#### **Conclusions and next steps:**
