# Backup and Data Protection

The environment is protected with backups so that, if a problem occurs, you can recover the data to an earlier point.

### What is protected

The backups cover the servers' disks in the environment: the system, user profiles, and work data. It's the basis for rolling back if something goes wrong.

### Restoration

If an update fails, someone deletes something they shouldn't, or ransomware gets in, you restore from a backup to an earlier point and recover the environment's good state.

> A backup lets you return to a previous point, but it doesn't prevent the interruption while you restore. It's your safety net, not a high-availability mechanism.
