# Permissions

This is the reference for how access is structured.

### Who you assign permissions to

| Level | What for                                     |
| ----- | -------------------------------------------- |
| User  | Individual access or specific cases          |
| Group | The usual case: access by department or team |

### What they are applied to and how they propagate

| Aspect      | Detail                                                                           |
| ----------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Scope       | Permissions are assigned to folders                                              |
| Inheritance | Anything under a folder inherits its permissions                                 |
| Exception   | You can define a different permission in a subfolder and break inheritance there |

### Spaces

| Space    | What it is                                                           |
| -------- | -------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| Personal | Each user's personal area                                            |
| Shared   | Folders shared by multiple users or groups, depending on permissions |
